Mr. Donald L. Mabrey, 60, of Burnett’s Way, Suffolk, Virginia transitioned Wednesday, January 13, 2021. He was predeceased by his father, James T. Mabrey, brothers, Ronald Mabrey, Calvin Simpson, Elton Mabrey, sister-in-law, Michiko Mabrey, brother-in-law, John Ricks, and mother-in-law, Betty Ann Futrell. Donald, affectionately known as “Twin”, was born March 31, 1960 to Thelma Simpson and the late James “JT” Mabrey. He attended Suffolk High School and graduated in 1978. He was a dedicated employee with Electric Motor and Contracting, Inc. where he served for 40 years. Donald also operated a landscaping business and had clients throughout Virginia and North Carolina. He was a member of the Star of Sharon Masonic Lodge #231. Donald was loved by all that he encountered and never met a stranger. He was known for being comical and his free-spirited personality. He was a hardworking man and taught many people how to earn an honest living. He taught many how to do landscaping, car detailing, small home repairs, and so much more. Donald was very family oriented and was loved by all. His favorite sayings were, “Where my money at?” and Go make my money!”. Donald leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 22 years, Tamra Mabrey, his 9 children, Donna Riddick, Tileisha Towns (Valenté), George Killebrew, Vivian Dillard, Donald Jones, Travis Ash, Kendral Keith, Andraé Riddick, and Donisa Horace, his mother, Thelma Simpson, his siblings, Marian Ricks, Sheryl Wiggins (Leon), Darlene Simpson, Darryl Mabrey, and Chris Simpson, sisters-in-law, Denise Mabrey, Myra Childs, Karen Cooper (Ronnie), brothers-in-law, Alton Futrell Jr. (Quniana), Elder Dionte Futrell (Frances), father-in-law Alton Futrell Sr., 23 Grandchildren, 7 Great Grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 23, 2021 in Carver Memorial Cemetery. Dr. Dwight Nixon will deliver the message of comfort.
