Ella Louise Holland, affectionately known as Gail, Aunt Gail, and Ms. Gail, 82, of S. 12th Street, Suffolk, Virginia, peacefully transitioned on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at her beloved residence, surrounded by the warmth and love of her family.
Born to the late Maggie Holland and Wilbur Holland Sr., Gail lived a life full of grace, compassion, and devotion to those she loved. She was the heart of her family, known for her kindness, her steady wisdom, and her ability to bring comfort to everyone around her.
Gail was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Brenda Ann Holland and Sheila H. Lassiter; her brother-in-law, Wilford Lassiter; her sister-in-law, Laverne Holland; and her beloved nephews, Donta Hedgepeth and Sterling Lassiter.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Roderick Harris (Dawn), Adrain Harris (Kia), Delvin Holland, and Brandy Holland; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; her loving siblings, Patricia Holland and Wilbur Holland Jr.; 11 nieces and nephews; 43 great-nieces and great-nephews; and a host of extended family members and friends who will forever remember her love and light.
Gail’s life was one of service and strength — she poured herself into her family, uplifting and guiding them with patience and unconditional love. Her home was a place of warmth, good times, and plenty of laughter. Her words were a source of encouragement, and her faith was a constant example to all who knew her.
A public viewing will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, from 2 to 7 p.m. in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel. A heartfelt celebration of life will take place on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 112 Mahan Street, Suffolk, Virginia. We invite everyone who cherished Ella to join us in honoring her legacy. She will find her final resting place in the serene surroundings of Carver Memorial Cemetery.
