Montoria Lavar Valentine 44, of Suffolk, Virginia transitioned to his final resting place on March 25, 2022. He was predeceased in death by his mother Annie Carroll, his maternal grandparents, Wade and Martha Carroll and his paternal grandparents, Earnest Sr. and Josephine Jones. Montoria attended Suffolk Public Schools and graduated from Nansemond River High School class of 1996. Throughout, Montoria younger years he quickly became well-known for his great skills on the basketball court. After high school, Montoria furthered his education, by attending Christopher Newport University where he continued to play basketball and studied education. Montoria was employed by Goodman’s Septic Tank Service as a foreman. He was a faithful member of Hosier Lane Hunting Club for decades. Montoria thoroughly enjoyed hunting and playing the fish tables. Montoria leaves to cherish his memory, his lifelong and devoted friend Shawndell Harris of Portsmouth, Virginia; his father, Ernest Jones Jr of Suffolk, Virginia, bonus father, Donald Scott; two amazing daughters, Anazia Valentine and Torian Barnes; son; Malik Harmon; and Madison Chalk (God Daughter). He is also survived by, his bonus mother, Vida Gibson (Kenneth) of Portsmouth, Virginia ; his loving sisters, Yolanda Carroll of Suffolk, Virginia, Erica Jones (Edward) of Portsmouth, Virginia; Sherress Jones of Hampton, Virginia; and Dena McCall of Portsmouth, Virginia; his supportive brothers, William Carroll of Suffolk, Virginia; Tavaris Morgan of Herford, North Carolina; Grandparents Eunice Cephas of Portsmouth Virginia; Ellerson Lyons Sr (Barbara); his nieces Caronia Carroll, Alaysia Arrington, Jaycee Morgan; nephews; Ray Johnson Jr and William Carroll Jr; Jasiyah Hall, two great nieces; Ceazia Carroll and Zyazia Hart; seven best friends, Curtis Vaughan, Troy Parrish, Anthony Jones, Sheldon Jones, Vernon Woodson, Guyron Jones, Omar Ingram, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends to include the entire Jericho Community. A viewing will be held from 2-7 p.m. Friday, April 1, 2022 at Rising St. James P.H.C. A celebration of life will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2022 at Union Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Robert A. Wilkins will deliver the message of comfort. Bishop Clarence V. Russell is the host Pastor. He will be entombed in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
