Evangelist Mildred Green passed away peacefully at home on Saturday July 26th, 2025, in Suffolk, Virginia. She was born August 9th, 1940, in Hempstead, New York, she is preceded in death by her parents; Andrew and Juanita Johnson.
Mildred attended Salem Missionary Baptist Church in Jamaica, New York and served on the choir. It was at Bible Way Temple in New York that Mildred answered the call to teach and spread the word of Christ. Under her teaching and leadership, the Sunday school program flourished, and many students were added to the rolls. It is here that she preached for the first time as an evangelist and spearheaded a shelter ministry. She was also a licensed cosmetologist by the State of New York and ministered to all while practicing her craft.
After relocating to Suffolk, Virginia in 1998, Mildred joined St, Paul RZUA, led by Pastor E. P. Foreman. She received her associate’s degree in biblical studies in 2012 and was valedictorian of her class. In 2017 she received her Bachelor of Ministry and still she pushed on to receive a Master of Theology and Doctor of Theology degrees. Even though she earned the title of Doctor through hard work and perseverance, her chosen title was “Evangelist”.
Mildred was known for her quick wit, sense of humor and no-nonsense attitude. This helped her as president of the Elders board and organize the “outside the walls” revivals. She also found joy in performing marriage ceremonies and those she married felt blessed by her wise words.
Evangelist Green is preceded in death by her husband William J, Green, her brother Andrew Johnson II (Emily), and her sister Dorothy Yeldell. She leaves to cherish her memory; two loving daughters Terry and Denise and her granddaughter Jasmine. Along with a host of family and friends.
A celebration of life will be 12 Noon, Saturday, August 9, 2025 at St. Paul Church. Her remains will be laid to rest at Nansemond-Suffolk Cemetery. In this time of remembrance, professional services have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc., ensuring that they are carried out with the utmost dignity and reverence.
