Michael E. Gray

Michael Gray was born on October 24, 1955, to the late Marvin and Bernice Gray. He peacefully entered eternal rest surrounded by family.

Michael was preceded in death by three sisters: Elizabeth Jones, Clarice Gray, and Yvonne Flagler; and two brothers: Anthony Gray and Robert Gray.

He leaves to cherish his memory one devoted daughter, Nicole Simmons (Adolph); a loving granddaughter, Jada White; and a grandson, Jaden Robinson. He was also blessed with three great-grandchildren: Ayden, A’Lani, and Amora. Michael is also survived by stepdaughters Faye Olden (Barry) and Lisa Robinson, both of Suffolk, VA; one brother, Marvin Gray, Jr. (Doris) of Suffolk, VA; three sisters, Emma Chisman of Yorktown, VA, Janie Gray of Chesapeake, VA, and Evelyn Hunt of Courtland, VA; and one sister-in-law, Gwen Gray. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a special friend, Bridgette Monroe, who held a dear place in his heart.

Michael attended Suffolk Public Schools and was a proud graduate of Suffolk High School. He began his career at Newport News Shipbuilding before moving to Orlando, Florida, in the 1980s. There, he was employed by the City of Orlando until his retirement. Never one to sit still, Michael later became the proud owner of Smooth Cuts Lawn Services.

When his health began to decline, Michael returned home to Suffolk to be near his daughter and family. Those who knew him will fondly remember his humor, kindness, and his favorite saying — “You gots to be kidding me.”

Michael Gray will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.

A celebration of life will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 7, 2025 at St. Paul Church, 619 Spruce Street, Suffolk. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
