Michael Andrew Gary Sr. went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 31, 2024. His life began in Suffolk, Virginia, on September 19, 1959, born the son of Willie Floyd and Ellen Hicks Gary. He accepted God at a young age, at Little Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
He attended John F. Kennedy High School and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He worked as a pipe insulator at various shipyards, prior to his illness.
He is preceded in death by his brothers Willie F. Gary Jr. and Eric Dexter Gary.
He is survived by his parents, Willie F. Gary Sr. and Ellen Hicks Gary of Suffolk, Virginia; sons Michael Gary Jr. and Daron Gary, both of Portsmouth, Virginia; daughters LaToya Gary of Smithfield, Virginia and Kandi Banks (Reggie), of Carterville, Georgia; Priscilla Gary, his former wife and mother of his children; three sisters, Nadina Gary and Belinda A Steede, both of Suffolk, Virginia, and Myra V. Bradburn (Brett) of Gainesville, Virginia; one aunt, Mary H. Wolfrey of Elizabeth City, North Carolina; a dear friend, who supported him, through his illness, Sonya Copeland; 9 grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 10, 2024 at Healing Chapel Baptist Church. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
