Deacon Melvin Junius Young

Today we have come together to celebrate the life and rejoice of the home going of
this faithful man. At times such as this we turn to the blessed words of Jesus. He said
to His disciples, "let not your hearts be troubled. You believe in God, believe also in
me. For in my Father's house are many mansions. If it were not so, I would have told
you. I go to prepare a place for you and if I go and prepare a place for you, I will
come again and receive you unto my self. But where I am there you may be also." Paul
said, "For we know that if the earthly body of this tabernacle be dissolved, we have a
building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For to be
absent from the body is to be present with the Lord."

Deacon Melvin Junius Young passed away peacefully on November 28, 2023, at the
age of 84. He was born to the late William M Jones and Helen Lee Young on July 15,
1939.

He retired as a mechanic at Vitex Packing, Suffolk Virginia. He was a faithful member
of Oak Grove Baptist Church. He loved and faithfully served as a Deacon and Trustee
for over forty years and also served on the OGBC Budget Committee.

Deacon Young was predeceased by his parents and one sister, Rose Pickett.

Having a heart of service, Deacon Young’s unselfish nature was exemplified by his
focus on others, which he graciously carried out with great joy. He loved his children,
his family, and entire Oak Grove Baptist church family very much. He was a wonderful
man who was loved, is missed, and will always be cherished by many.

He leaves to cherish his life and memories his children, Beverly Young, Margaret
Young, Linda Young and Melvin J. Young, Jr.; his two sisters, Lula Raby and Gladys
Davis-Andrean, a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

A precious one from us his gone.
A voice we love is stilled.
A place is vacant in our home.
Which never can be filled.
