Melvin Icurtis Morings peacefully entered eternal rest at the home he shared with his spouse, Christine, one day before their 26th anniversary. Born on September 9, 1952, he was the son of the late Lindsey and Margaret Morings of Suffolk, Virginia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Megan; his sister, Doretha (Honey); his brother, George Allen, who died at six months old; and his grandparents, Linous and Alice Gatling and Sam and Purler Morings; and his cherished dog and best friend, Palmer.
Melvin joined Holland Mission Church at an early age and remained a faithful member until illness prevented him from attending. He also served as the adult Sunday School teacher.
Melvin deeply loved his wife, as they affectionately called each other SPOUSE, his dog Palmer, and his family.
Melvin was an avid sports fan. He was a devoted Las Vegas Raiders fan, whom he still fondly called the Oakland Raiders. He enjoyed having friends over to play cards or reminisce about old times. An avid sports fan, he made sports a lifelong passion. He wrote sports articles for Southwestern High School and Forest Glen High School, where he was a member of the Class of 1971, and later for the Holland Aces. In his later years, he fondly recalled games and players and could quote their statistics. After 30 years of faithful and dedicated service, he retired from Defense General Supply Center in Richmond, VA.
Melvin leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 26 years, Christine Morings; his son, Sherod Johnson (Kirsha); his grandson and the apple of his eye, Sherod Johnson Jr., known as SJ; his sister, Sylvia Morings; his brothers, Ray Morings and Terry Morings (Seminar); his sisters-in-law, Estell Oliver, Pam Simms, Jackie Pennix (Sylvester), and Seminar Morings; his brother-in-law, Alvin Johnson; and his aunts, Mary Johnson and Luella Fitzhugh. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins, and devoted friends to mourn his loss.
