Maxine B. Jenkins- was born August 1, 1951 to the late Perry Dean Johnson and Margaret Johnson Price. Maxine’s education began at Franklin Elementary and completed at Roosevelt High in Roosevelt, New York. Maxine graduated from Anne’s Beauty Academy in 1985 and established and owned Maxine’s Beauty Salon in 1986. Although, there were various academic and professional milestones in her life, the success of her family and legacy remained most paramount. Maxine was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, friend and community mother to all the children who came in her path. She was a foster care parent, advocate and ambassador for children in which nobody wanted. Maxine wanted to make a difference in the lives of children and give them a better life. She was a proud mother of eight strong, beautiful children. She loved her family and was a devoted woman of Christ. She touched the lives of many people and will be remembered by those who knew and loved her. Maxine was baptized at The Church of Israel, where she was a dedicated member until her death. Maxine was proceeded in death by both parents and a brother, Perry Dean Johnson, Jr.; a sister; Brenda Jean Johnson, son; Ariel Jenkins and husband; William Jenkins. She leaves to cherish her memories, her seven devoted children; Margaret Ann Cobb (Wilbert), Antonio Jenkins (Nikki), Calvin Jenkins, Shavonne Jenkins, Ricardo Jenkins (Latasha), Mariah Meredith Jenkins, Laquisha Mizell Jenkins all of Chesapeake and Virginia Beach, Virginia. Six grandchildren; Jovan Haynes, Lamont Jenkins, Lavon Ivey, III, Riyani Jenkins, La’nejah Barnes and La’niyah Barnes all of Chesapeake and Virginia Beach, Virginia A special great-grandson; Jashaun Haynes of Virginia Beach, Virginia and a special friend and sister in Christ for over 40 years; Elizabeth “Betsy” Allen and a host of more great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives. A graveside service will be held 1:00 p.m. Sunday, September 1, 2019 at Southview Memorial Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
