Mary Elizabeth Rice

Mary Elizbeth Rice, affectionately known as “PUDDIN” went from labor to rest on Tuesday, October 10, 2023. She was born and raised in Nansemond County, Va. To the late Josephus C. and Louvenia Scott.

As an adult, she married the love of her life Eddie S. Rice and they had 10 children. Puddin was preceded in death by her husband; 4 children: Lenease Rice, Elizabeth Hatten, Eddie S. Rice Jr., Curtis Rice; 3 grandchildren: Syeedia Brumley, Sheldon D. Frank and Shameka Johnson. Mary leaves to cherish her memory: 6 children- Maryann Piker(Ronnell), Sandra Rice, Eartha Rice, Lola Rice(Julius), Everett Rice and Lenell Rice(Brenda); son-in-law: Karl Hatten; 42 grandchildren, 78 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Alma Wooten and Pearline Fulgham; 3 brothers: William Scott(Brenda), James Scott(Patricia) and Jackson Scott(Blondell); 2 sister-in-law: Ruthie Battle(Eugune) and Annie L. Rice; 1 brother-in-law: Rudolph Rice; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Christian Home Baptist Church. She will be laid to rest in the church cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
