Mary Magaline Harper Artis, 88, of Reid Street, Suffolk, Virginia transitioned Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Ida Shepard Harper and James Eddie Harper. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Alfonza Artis, brothers, William Harper, Leon Harper, James Harper and Freddie Harper, and sister, Martha L. Scott. She attended East Suffolk High School and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. She leaves to cherish her memories three daughters, Barbara J. Artis of Suffolk, VA, Darlene A. Britt( Horace)of Chesapeake, VA and Corliss E. Struckman (Robert) of Norfolk, VA; four sons, Alfonza L. Artis, Sr. of Dillywin, VA, Clayton Artis of Arlington, TX, Wayne Artis of Suffolk, VA, and Phillip Artis (Stephanie) of Bowie, MD; two sisters, Marian (sister)Smith and Ida (Baby Sis) Morton of Bronx, NY; brother-in-law, Philmore Artis; two sisters-in-law, Rosa Artis and Jean Artis; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A special thank you to the caregivers and Heartland Hospice. A celebration of life will be held noon, Saturday, August 1, 2020 at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Rev. Anthony Copeland will deliver the message of comfort. She will be laid to rest in Carver Memorial Cemetery. Professional service with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
