Mary Knight

Deaconess Mary Jones Knight, 83, departed this life on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at Southampton Memorial Hospital, after a period of declining health. She was a resident at East Pavilion Nursing Home for nearly seven years. Mary was born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard and Ethel Jones in Williamston, North Carolina. Mary attended Isle of Wight Training School in Carrsville, Virginia. She was married to the late Deacon John Frank Knight who was her loyal companion in sickness and health. She was a faithful and dedicated member of the Pulaski Baptist Church where she served as president and treasurer of the Deaconess Ministry, member of the Senior Missionary Circle, the Usher Board, the Benevolent Fund and collector/treasurer for the Fund to financially support Virginia University of Lynchburg-Seminary. Mary enjoyed traveling, apparel shopping, collecting Barbie dolls, and cooking. Her ability to cook was well known and appreciated by family and friends. Her devotion to family and friends was consistently shown by her willingness to share of herself and be of service to others. Mary was preceded in death by three sisters Mrs. Cleo Fulcher, Mrs. Evelyn Shepheard, and Mrs. Lillian Boyd, and two brothers Mr. Willie Keys and Mr. James Jones, and her son, Mr. Anthony Knight. She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted daughter Mrs. Gloria K. Harris (Douglas), grandsons Mr. Douglas Harris, Jr. (Lindsey), Mr. Anthony McCoy and sister Evangelist Hattie Taylor and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. A private graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 8, 2020. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
