Mary Anne Kindred, age 79, of Suffolk, Virginia, entered into eternal rest on April 7, 2026. Born on August 3, 1946, in Nansemond County to William A. Brown and Sara Riddick Brown, Mary was a loving mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and faithful servant of the Lord. She was a member of Faith of Deliverance Apostolic Church, where she served as Head Usher and a Missionary for many years.
Mary retired from Sentara Obici Hospital after more than 35 years in the Food Service department. She was known for her loving smile, caring heart, and outgoing personality. She meant a lot to so many whom she encountered over the years either at work or in the church. She was a great cook known for chicken pot pie, sweet potato jacks and seafood salad.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son James T. Kindred Jr., her brothers, William H. Brown, Harry T. Brown, and John J. Brown as well a sister, Sarah E. Hall “Ruth”.
She is survived by her son Leander Kindred Sr. (Avery), her daughter Phyllis Y. Williams (Donnell). She is also survived by her grandchildren Shant’e M. Kindred-Bullock (Darius), Ta’Nica S. Kindred, Latera Poindexter, Devine Poindexter, Leander Kindred Jr., Aveon Kindred.
Mary is also survived by her siblings Ernest L. Brown (Marilyn), Kenneth Brown, Charlene Williams (Lenart), Linda Jones (Harrison), Joan Norfleet, Shelia Chase, Stephanie Harden (Derrick). And a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
There will be a viewing on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, between 2 PM and 5 PM. A celebration of life will be held at Crocker Funeral Home, in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel at 900 E. Washington Street, Suffolk, Virginia 23434, on April 15, 2026, at 11 AM.
