MAE CURTIS BRODIE
Mae Curtis Brodie, 98 of Suffolk, transitioned peacefully on Monday, May 19, 2025, at Sentara Obici Hospital. She was born on March 26, 1927, in Nansemond County, Virginia, to the late Paul Bryant Sr. and Ada Hayslett Bryant. She was a devoted parent, sister, spouse, grandma, aunt, cousin, friend, and a cherished member of the Saratoga Community.
Mae Curtis loved the Lord. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior at an early age. In her early years, she attended Balm of Gilead Baptist Church with her parents and siblings. Later in life, she embarked on a spiritual journey with eight other believers, including her husband, Joseph Clifton Brodie, to become the founders of New Calvary Baptist Church. As one of the founding members, she served as an usher, trustee, deaconess, and a member of the kitchen community, and spearheaded many fundraising projects. At the time of her passing, she was the mother of the church. She attended and participated in all church activities, from Rainbow Teas to the Annual Women's Day services, until her health began to fail.
Mae Curtis was employed by and retired from Planters Peanut Company after 38 years of dedicated service. She retired in 1989, which gave her time to enjoy her family. She traveled with family and friends to near and faraway places. Mae Curtis was the matriarch of our family for many years. She was always willing to lend a helping hand, give sound advice, and have family gatherings. She loved to cook and make different desserts. The family enjoyed Sunday dinners where there was food, fun, and fellowship. At any given day or time, you could stop by and have a home-cooked meal.
