Mable Lee Artis Roberts, 76, passed away April 27, 2021 peacefully surrounded by her family. Mable was born April 26, 1945 in Nansemond County (Suffolk) to Harry C and Gladys Artis. She was a longtime resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania until her return back to Virginia. Mable loved her family. She enjoyed watching her soap operas and spending time with her grandkids. Mable loved a cold Pepsi and coffee. She was a member of Macedonia AME Church, where she served on the Usher Board. Mable was preceded in death by her parents, Harry C and Gladys Artis; her sister, Susie Mae Artis; five brothers, Sherman Lee Artis, Alton Artis, Marvin Artis, Harry Artis, Jr. and Jessie Lee-Artis. Mable's precious memory will be forever cherished by her husband, Thomas Roberts; children , Gladys Artis, Rosemary Riddick (Amos), Phebe Whitaker (Jerry), Melvin Artis (Erica), Ruby Artis and Norman Artis (Latosha); 23 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; brother, Alphonso Artis; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. A public viewing will be held 1-7 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2021 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 2, 2021 at Balm Church East Campus. Brother Tyron Riddick will deliver the message of comfort. Bishop A. S. Hall, Sr. is the host pastor.
