Act I: A Star is Born

Lynnette Cross was born on January 9 th , 1964, in Suffolk, VA to the late Jessie Mae Cross and George (Big Chief) Lassiter.

Act II: A Life of Purpose

Lynette Cross educational journey began at East Suffolk Elementary School, followed by her high school graduation from John F. Kennedy High School in 1982. She continued her studies at Old Dominion University (ODU), pursuing a career in Education. Afterward, she earned her LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) nursing license from Obici School of Practical Nursing in 1992. Lynette later returned to her education at 51 years old, obtaining her Bachelor of Nursing degree from Hampton University in 2015, further advancing her nursing career and solidifying her expertise in the field.

Act III: A Time to Love

Lynnette is survived by her lifetime partner David Hayes who she loved very much and enjoyed a fruitful life of traveling the world, gaining plenty of timeless experiences together.

Act IV: A Time to Work-

Lynnette Cross Mack began her nursing career in 1992 at Golden Living Center, where she worked as a night charge nurse after obtaining her LPN license. Over the years, she gained extensive experience in the field, and in 2018, she took on the role of Assistant Director of Nursing at Beacon Shores Nursing and Rehabilitation. In this position, she played a key role in overseeing nursing operations and ensuring quality patient care, further advancing her career in healthcare management.

Act V: A Legacy and Labour of Love

Lynette Cross Mack’s entrepreneurial journey is deeply rooted in her love for people and her unwavering desire to make a difference in her community. Her story began in the 1990s, when she started selling Avon, a humble beginning that sparked her passion for business. Along the way, she organized numerous fundraisers for her church and her children’s schools, always finding ways to give back and support those around her. In 2019, driven by her heart for caring for others, Lynette opened *Labour of Love*, a home healthcare business dedicated to providing compassionate care to her community. But her journey didn’t stop there. In 2024, she honored the memory of her late mother, Jessie Mae Cross, by opening a group home in her name. Each step of Lynette’s entrepreneurial path has been guided by love, service, and a deep desire to leave a positive impact on the lives of those she served. Her businesses were not just ventures, they are extensions of her heart, dedicated to nurturing and uplifting others.

A strong woman is like a baobab tree, she stands tall and provides shade for others. She carries the weight of her home on her head is not weak.

Act VI: A Time to Depart-

On Monday April 21 st , 2025, Lynnette Cross-Mack peacefully transitioned to eternal life, surrounded by the love and devotion of her family and friends.

Act VII: A Time to Remember-

Lynnette was preceded in death by her beloved infant son Logan Anthony Cross; parents, Jessie Mae Cross and George (Big Chief) Lassiter; brothers, Daniel Branch and Tony Cross, and sister Gloria Jean Smith. 

She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her devoted children: Raven Amelia Cross (West Africa, Ghana); Ryan Emile Cross (New York City) and Regan Amanda Amos (Suffolk, VA), and her lifetime partner David Hayes (Carrollton, VA). Her grandchildren, whom she adored, are D’Nhyla Renee Harrell, Nova Rae Davis and Nore Logan Cross-Gatling. Surviving siblings include Shirley Mae (Shir Mae) (Chesapeake, VA); Larry Ferguson (East Orange, NJ); Micheal Cross and wife Shelia (Clinton, MD); Diana Cross (Hampton, VA); Lynn Cross and wife Jacqueline (Kansas City, MO); and Cathy Blount and husband Lindwood (Suffolk, VA). She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, lifelong friends, coworkers and employees.

A viewing will be held 3-7 p.m. Wednesday, April, 30, 2025 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held noon, Thursday, May 1, 2025 at Greater Sweet Beulah Apostolic Church. She will be entombed in Carver Memorial Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
