Lorinza Thomas Boone

Lorinza Thomas Boone "Lo" 76, was born on September 9, 1946. He was the sixth child born to the late Junius A. and Gracie V. Boone of Suffolk, VA. Lorinza departed this life March 20, 2023 as God saw the need to bring him in. He was predeceased by his sister Ida P. Jones, and two brothers, Junius A. Boone, Jr. and Reginald E. Boone, Sr. Lorinza became a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church in the Buckhorn section of Suffolk, VA. Where he stood at the doors of the Lord's house as an usher for many years. Lo also helped around the church and was an unofficial trustee. He attended Southwestern High School. Lorinza was employed with Smithfield Packing Company in Smithfield, VA. Where he retired after 44 years. Lorinza was united in marriage to his wife Shirley on December 15, 2007. They enjoyed watching TV together as well as going out to eat and visiting family during the holidays. Lorinza loved his family and enjoyed sitting around laughing and joking "shooting the breeze". He enjoyed using his crafty skills working side by side with his son-in-law Tony, building decks, ramps and sheds just to name a few. "Lo" enjoyed spending time in Suffolk at the home house known as "The Ponderosa". Often times you could catch him sitting on the deck at the Ponderosa and feeding that stray cat. When at home you would find him sitting in the den laid back in his recliner watching TV. It is during football season you would hear him cheer for his favorite team The Washington Commanders. Lorinza "Lo" leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Shirley W. Boone of 15 years; five children, Angela Harris, Chesapeake, VA., Lorinza T. Harris, Portsmouth, VA, Quincy Towns, Suffolk, VA, Sherry U. Ashburn (Tyrell) and Wendy U. Walton (Tony) of Windsor, VA; seven grandchildren, LaQuinta Edmonds, Clarissa Harris, Rackwon Blackledge, Tony Walton, Jr., Sherrell Ashburn, Bridgette Walton and Gregory "Gee" Ashburn, Jr.; Five great-grandchildren, Selena, Alanya, Ja'Nari, Dontae and Tony III "Trey"; three brothers, Nathaniel Boone, Calvin Boone (Hazel) and Kevin Knight; four sisters, Phyllis Alston, Khadija Abdullah, Najwa Speight and Jackie Boone; one aunt, Mary Virginia Boone; one sister-in-law, Mary Jean Kendall; three godchildren, Tony Walton, Jr., Bryson Smith and Parker Richardson; special family, Lucy Gray (George), Nathan and Terry Smith, NaTasha Richardson and Marva Parker; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Lo was loved by many and his memories will continue to live in our hearts. The world changes from year to year, our lives from day to day, but the love and memory of you shall never pass away. Goodbyes are not forever, Goodbyes are not the end, they simply mean we will miss you until we meet again. A viewing will be held 1-5 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2023 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel. A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 30, 2023 at Piney Grove Baptist Church. He will be laid to rest in Chapel Grove United Church of Christ Cemetery.
