Suffolk

Lois "Ann" Slaughter, age 80, transitioned peacefully from labor to reward on July 20th, 2025, at her residence. Ann was born on September 9th, 1944, in Nansemond County, Virginia, to the late James Lemuel Greene and Rosa B. Smith.

Ann attended East Suffolk High School upon completion; she later attended Kee Business College.

Ann met the love of her life, Charles (Jack) Slaughter, at a very early age. It was love at first sight, and they wed on August 31st, 1962. From this union, they had four beautiful children: Joyce, Karen, Charles Jr, and Tracey.

Ann's spiritual journey was a cornerstone of her life. She was a devoted member of New Jerusalem COGIC for over 60 years. Her service to the church, in various roles such as Mother of the Church, Missionary, Secretary, Sunday School Teacher, and Choir Director, reflected her unwavering dedication to God.

She worked at General Electric Company and later transitioned to the Suffolk City Health Department, where she worked for many years. She was the President of the Hollywood-Jericho Civic League, a member of the CTS Ensemble, and a member of the Royal Goldenettes. She loved spending time at the Suffolk Recreation Center.

She was preceded in death by her children, Tracey Slaughter, Charles Slaughter Jr, Karen Slaughter-Bullock, and her sister, Bettie Smith.

She leaves to mourn and cherish her memories to her husband Charles Slaughter of 62 years of marriage; one daughter, Joyce Slaughter-Bynum (Lance) of Randallstown, Md; two grandchildren, Sheniqua Bynum of Randallstown, Md and Darius Bullock of Suffolk, Va; two brothers, Rev. Lemuel Greene (Judy) and Clyde Edmond (Mary); and a Uncle, John Henry Steverson; and two special daughters Wanda Riddick and Anita Baker; with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m. Monday, July 28, 2025 at New Mt. Joy Food for Living Ministries. She will be laid to rest in Carver Memorial Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
