Lavinia Odell Baker

Lavinia Odell Baker, 89, of Godwin Blvd, Suffolk, Virginia transitioned Sunday, August 9, 2020 at Sentara Obici Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Esther Mae Baker and Willie Thomas Baker. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband John W. Baker; two sisters, Wilia Philyaw and Mildred Robinson; three brothers, James Baker, Willie Baker, Jr., and Isiah Baker. She was a graduate of East Suffolk High School. She retired in 1991 from Suffolk Public Schools after 10 years of faithful and dedicated service as a Cafeteria Worker. She was a member of Chapel Grove United Church of Christ. She leaves to cherish her memories three daughters, Suzanne Hillard of Hampton, VA, Laverne Arline-Sawyer of Suffolk, VA and Carol Evaldi of Virginia Beach, VA; sister, Evelyn Haskins of Suffolk; 5 granchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great granchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 17, 2020 at Chapel Grove United Church of Christ Cemetery, 7366 W. Blackwater Road, Windsor, Virginia. Rev. Dr. J.J. Ferguson will deliver the message of comfort. The family will line up from 830 Seminole Drive, Suffolk, VA at 10 a.m. on the day of service.
