Kenneth “Coach Chiz” Chisholm

Kenneth “Chiz” Chisholm of Suffolk, Virginia, entered into eternal rest on August 27, 2026, at his residence. He was born on January 1, 1963, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Leon and Joan Chisholm. Chiz was preceded in death by two brothers, Gary and Ronald Chisholm; a brother-in-law, Kolley Lewis; and one godson, Demarkus Thornton.

Chiz was raised in Far Rockaway, Queens, New York. He graduated from Beach Channel High School and later attended New Paltz College. Determined to change the trajectory of his life for the better, he later made his way to Virginia. It was there that he met the love of his life, his beautiful wife, Kim, and together they were blessed with their beautiful daughter, Kenisha.

Chiz lived a life deeply rooted in faith, strength, love, leadership, and entrepreneurship. He was a dedicated businessman and the proud owner of Universal Asset Management LLC and Universal Roofing LLC. He also served as a Notary Public for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Through his leadership, determination, and entrepreneurial spirit, Chiz built a legacy that reflected his ambition, hard work, and commitment to providing for those he loved.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Chiz had a heart for giving back to his community. He significantly contributed to and supported organizations including Finney’s Family First Foundation, Big Homies Community Outreach, the Shaquena Mullen Foundation for Adults with Autism, Inc., and the Camp Community College Men’s Basketball Team, along with many others. His generosity, support, and willingness to invest in others will leave a lasting impact on the countless lives and communities he touched.

Chiz was a faithful member and Chairman of the Trustee Ministry at Bethlehem Christian Church, “The House of Bread.” He was passionate about the people he connected with and was deeply devoted to coaching the Boo Williams EYBL 16U Basketball Team, mentoring his players, managing his businesses, and, most importantly, loving and providing for his family and close friends.

Whether on or off the court, handling business, or mentoring others, Chiz’s wisdom, encouragement, knowledge, eagerness, and unwavering drive to motivate and inspire the next person will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Kenneth leaves to cherish and carry on his legacy, his loving and devoted wife, Kim Chisholm, and his one and only beloved daughter, Kenisha Chisholm, both of Suffolk, Virginia. He also leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory, his brother, Martin Chisholm (Jennifer) of South Suffolk County, New York; three brothers-in-law, Kelley Lewis, Jr. (Johnna) of Suffolk, Virginia, Ryan Lewis (Cheryl) of Clinton, Maryland, and Kevin Lewis of Suffolk, Virginia; as well as four special godchildren.

Beyond his immediate family, Chiz was blessed with many special people whom he held close to his heart and deeply cherished. He valued the profound relationships he shared with a host of dear friends, his church family, fellow coaches, basketball players and their families, business and community partners, and his personal and dedicated handyman, Lorenzo Mitchell. 

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026, 2p.m., at The Cathedral at Zion Community Church, located at 2500 E. Washington Street, Suffolk, Va. 23434. He will be laid to rest in Carver Memorial Cemetery. Funeral services with, care, compassion and dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home.
