In the quiet echoes of our hearts, where grief and love intertwine, we gather today to remember Joyce Lenora "Lil Mess" Woodson who was born to the late Wilbert Brown, Sr., and Lottie Harris on December 16, 1953.
"Lil Mess" as her family affectionately called her, was baptized at Sixth Street Baptist Church at an early age. She was educated in the Suffolk Public School System, where she was a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School. She was joined in marriage to Vernon Woodson and together their union created three children, Kersia "Scoodie", Veronica and Vernon "Bug".
During her early years, she was employed by Suffolk's Donut Shop and the Candy Factory.
Her unconditional love and strength were a refuge and a safe place for her family. She loved dancing, taking care of her husband, and spending time with her grandchildren. Her favorite pastime was watching her favorite shows, Andy Griffin, The Young and the Restless, and the Westerns; however, she could not be disturbed when the Price is Right was on.
After a brief illness, Lil Mess peacefully transitioned with her loving husband by her side on Sunday, March 3, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Ralph (Spook) Harris, Sallie Ann Harris, Joseph Harris and Shirley Brown Jones.
