Joanne "Jo" Tillery-Ricks

Joanne Ricks, 58, of Webb St, Suffolk, VA, transitioned Sunday, September 12, 2021 at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Irene Burnett Tillery and Amos Tillery, Sr. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her sisters, Margaret E. Gambrell and Carol Faye Tillery, brothers, Thomas Lee Tillery, Amos Tillery, Jr., Richard Tillery, Sr., Donald Tillery, Larry Tillery and Billy Earl Briggs, Sr. She was a graduate of Suffolk High School. She was previously employed with Smithfield Packing for 18 years and a member of Macedonia AME Church. She leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Johnnie Ricks of Suffolk, VA; daughter, loving and devoted daughter, Nyya Tillery Flythe (Eric) of Suffolk; two sons, Kenard Tillery and Eugene Tillery both of Suffolk, VA; two sisters, Irene Jordan (Jimmy) of Baltimore, MD and Tonya Tillery of Suffolk, VA; two brothers, Milton Tillery (Kim) of Philadelphia and Levoil Tillery (Rory) New Jersey; three grandchildren, Shanyya Tillery, Asia Darden and TyAndre Tillery; special granddaughter, Breona Manning; best friend who stood by her side until the end Ms. Brenda Bagley; special son and hairstylist Mr. Rayshawn Delk who she loved dearly; sisters-in-law, Rosa Tillery, Lousie Tillery, Thomasina Tillery, Evelyn Scott, Patricia Murphy and Willie Mae Newby; brother-in-law, John Vinson; mother in-law, Dorothy Ricks; a host of other relatives and friends. A celebration of life will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 19, 2021 at Balm Church East Campus, 523 East Washington Street, Suffolk, Virginia.
