This is the story of the life of Jerry Allen Young, who was born on March 6, 1971, in Avon, Ohio, and passed away on the evening of April 9, 2026, in Virginia, at the age of 55. He was the only son of Judith and John Young.

At the age of 23, Jerry proudly enlisted in the United States Navy on November 23, 1994, serving as a Construction Mechanic with the Seabees—one of the Navy’s most respected communities. Through dedication and exceptional skill, he rose through the ranks and retired as a CM1 on November 30, 2014, concluding an illustrious military career marked by honor and service.

Throughout his time in the Navy, Jerry served in numerous conflicts and operations, including Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, the Global War on Terrorism, the NATO intervention in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the War in Afghanistan, the Iraq War, and the Third Persian Gulf War. His bravery and commitment were recognized with many medals and awards, most notably the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V,” earned in Iraq for valor and heroism while facing direct combat and personal risk. He was also awarded the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Humanitarian Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, NATO Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, and the Joint Meritorious Unit Award. Jerry took great pride in his service and in being a Seabee, leaving behind a legacy of courage, leadership, and excellence.

In Nov of 2006, Jerry met the woman who would become the love of his life, Paula—his steadfast partner through every season of life. They were married on January 3, 2009, and shared 17 wonderful years together in Suffolk, where they built a home and a life filled with love. Their household was completed by their beloved fur babies: Maple, Baby, Arlo, and Lily.

Jerry was a gifted, self-taught craftsman with a deep passion for woodworking, eventually becoming a skilled furniture artisan who continually challenged himself with new projects. He found joy in gunsmithing.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, John and Judith Young. He is survived by his loving wife, Paula; children Victoria, Jerricho, and Raymond; grandchildren Sean and Lily; and his sister, Janet.

Jerry will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, and his memory will live on through the lives he touched.
