Jeffrey Reid

September 12, 1960 — March 22, 2018

On Thursday, March 22, 2018, God called our beloved, Jeffrey Reid to his eternal rest. Jeffrey was born September 12, 1960 in Nansemond County, Virginia to the late John and Doretha Ward Reid. He was the fourth of seven children born to that union. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Alton E. Reid. He was educated in the Suffolk Public School System and was a graduate of Forest Glen High School Class of 78. After High School he went on to graduate from Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company Apprentice School. Jeff was employed at Huntington Ingalls Industries for thirty four years. He started as a shipfitter, later advancing to becoming a Planner. Jeffrey loved the Lord!!! He was baptized at Mill Neck Baptist Church, Como, N.C. Upon moving he became a loyal member of Laurel Hill United Church of Christ, along with his mother and six siblings. While at Laurel Hill United Church of Christ, Jeffrey’s love of God moved him to wearing many hats. He was a Church Trustee, Assistant Sunday School Superintendent, Treasurer, Usher, Sunday School Class (No. 2/No 2B) member, Youth Advisor member, custodian and Mr. Fix It if something broke, he would fix it or direct you to someone who could. Jeffrey also was a volunteer at the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen and the Suffolk Impact Food giveaway. He was also a faithful cook at the family reunions alongside of Wardell Ash, Robert Holland, Robert Starks, Jake Lolher and the boys. Jeffrey was a good steward and strived to save money for the church. Jeff was always busy. In addition to church and family affairs he found a love in being a mechanic. Many mornings, bright and early, you might find him at “Pick and Pull” or any other junkyard this side of the Mississippi, purchasing parts to fix cars, trucks, boats and lawn mowers for family and friends. He could tell you what was wrong with your vehicle all the time witnessing to the glory of the Lord. Jeff spent many hours cutting grass with his cousin Gregory “Buzzard” Ash. Still, he found time to fellowship and enjoy eating with his cousins Sonny and Ruth Blizzard, Clarence and Elizabeth Ash, Bubba and Shelia Artis; great friends, Ms. Carlis and Shane-High Hill and Eddie and Louis Britt. Oh how he love to smile and eat. Jeff also loved and respected his mother-in-law Ms. Hamlin. He treated her like his mother and she treated him like her son. Jeffrey loved his brothers and sisters as was evidenced by the way they helped and nurtured each other. But next to his unshakeable love for the Lord, Jeffrey loved his wife Jeanett and his daughter Logan. When he spoke of them he spoke with passion and humble pride. He was proud and pleased with their accomplishments. He is survived by his wife Jeanett Hamlin Reid (30 Years) of Suffolk; daughter, Logan Simone Reid; two sisters, Betty R. Turner of Franklin, VA and Janet R. Stokes (Craig, Sr.) of Suffolk; three brothers, Randy L. Reid (Lyndra) of Fayetteville, GA, Calvin Reid of Franklin, VA and Anthony M.
