Janice Lee Davis

 

Janice Lee Davis, affectionately known as “Aunt Poo”, a beloved member of the Suffolk, VA community, passed away on March 3, 2024. Born on April 15, 1959, Janice's life was marked by compassion, dedication, and love for her family and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her Grandmother Rosa Lee Savage, Father Robert Davis, Son Toriano Johnson, and Grandson JaQuan Yulee.

 

Janice received her education from the Suffolk School System and graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in 1978. She dedicated 21 years of her life to employment with the Virginia Cooperative Extension (Social Services). Janice's caring nature extended beyond her professional life; she was always ready to lend a helping hand and regularly prepared meals for those in need. Her home was a safe haven for children, ensuring they were always cared for and happy.

 

Her commitment to her faith led her to join the Greater Sweet Beulah Apostolic Church under Bishop Madison Copeland. Additionally, Janice was involved in various social groups, forming many special bonds along the way.

 

Janice was actively involved in various organizations, including serving as the Treasurer for the JFK Reunion Committee, Virginia Legal Aid, A.C.T.I.O.N, and Amicae sponsored by Epsilon Theta Zeta Chapter from 2008 to 2024.

 

In her free time, Janice enjoyed cooking for family and friends, taking trips to the casino, playing cards with The Pokeno Girls, and nurturing her plants.

 

Janice is survived by her mother, Mother Willie Davis; one son, Maurice Johnson; two daughters, Niya Johnson Ralph (Michael) and Bisceglia Johnson (Fred); grandchildren, Toriano Johnson, Abriana Johnson-Waters, Nyasia Johnson, Ny’Kera Johnson, and Aiden Johnson; one brother, Daryl Davis; four sisters, Rosa Howthorne (Eric) of Charlottesville, VA, Patricia Davis, Loriane Davis of Atlanta, GA, and Calaretta Hawton,; aunts Ruby Jean Brown of Capitol Heights, MD, Brenda Savage, Lillie Mae Mundy of Baltimore, MD, and Lillian Coles of Roanoke, VA; and three godchildren, Denise Flythe-Towns (William), Zenith Brown, and Melanie White; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

 

Janice Lee Davis will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of kindness and generosity will live on in the hearts of those she touched. May she rest in peace.

There will be NO PUBLIC VIEWING. A celebration of life will be held noon, Saturday, March 9, 2024 at New Mt. Joy Food for Living Ministries. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
