James Tyler, 70, of E. Washington Street, Suffolk, Virginia transitioned Sunday, July 17, 2022 at his residence. He was born September 13, 1951 in Franklin, Virginia to the late Essie Emily Johnson Tyler and Ernest Napoleon Tyler. Later in life he migrated to Newark, N.J. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Lee Johnson. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Sharon Renay Tyler of 18 years; two daughters, Kelly Lee Tyler and Vera Mae Saunders both of Newark, N.J , sons, Jermaine Burns (Nateasha) of Union, N.J, James Saunders, Leroy Saunders and J. Odessa Reynolds; sister, Mary Francis Johnson Lewis of N.J; sister-in-law, Jacqueline Irene Colbert; step-sisters, Cynthia Benton Osborne, Jean P. Williams, Muriel Council (James) and Twana Andrews all of Suffolk, VA; step brother, Francis Reid (Gladys); Grandchildren, Aminah Tyler, Isaiah Porter, Laniyah Porter, Andres Padilla, Adriana Padilla, Jamir Love, Jamiyah Love, Janiyah Love, Brianna Burns, Nia Burns, Jermaine C. Burns, Yasmin Robinson and Kimyetta Robinson; devoted/faithful nieces, Ushindi Lewis and Harriett Johnson both of N.J. and Aquia Ward and Atoya Baker both of Suffolk;; loyal great nices, Keara Harrell, Kaletra Harrell, Knawsia Harrell and Ka'Zya Harrell all of V.A; great-great niece, Zylani Harrell of Virginia; faithful nephews, Robert Johnson, Kevin Colbert, Dirus Benton, Emanuel Benton, Ronie Benton, Calvin Benton, Karon Harrell and Alton Ward; great nephews, Nasir Harrell, Ja'Zari Harrell and Zyair Harrell; great-great nephew, Shawn Mitchell, III; God sister/brother, Vernell and Denise Kahan of Suffolk, VA; loyal cousins, Jeffers and Deborah Sanford, Beverly and Clarence Jackson, Clarice and Gerald Anderson, Pecoyia and Victoria Lyons, Shirley Hill, LeAngelia Cross, Chelsey Saunders, Mckyle Cross, Michael Cross, Gloria Smith, Lynnette Mack, Kermit (Joe) Goodman (Estelle), Mary Jane Johnson Mitchell, Lou Emma, Ann Thorne/Thornton and a host of many others and friends. A celebration of life will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at Metropolitan Baptist Church. He will be laid to rest in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
