James Edward Eure “Butch” of Suffolk, VA transitioned on July 21, 2026. He was born on April 13, 1953 to Rebecca Eure and James Edward in New York.
James Edward Eure was also known by some as “Bang”, but most affectionately as “Butch”. He had a sharp eye for fashion and his attention to detail made him unforgettable wherever he went. He had a remarkable flair for fashion, wearing every outfit with confidence, elegance, and charm. He was a die-hard Boston Celtics fan.
James “Butch” Eure worked for The DOE Fund,Inc., at a shelter for men, as a house manager, from 2019 to 2023. He was recognized by his employers as a very hard worker and took pride in what he did. After retiring, James and his fiancé, Tresa Greene, decided to move back to Suffolk, VA to be close to his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rebecca Eure and James Edward, his brother, Rufus Eure and sister, Patricia Eure.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his fiancé, Tresa Greene, her children Dr. Vaughn Greene, Jr. (Cheriann), Keith Greene, Simone Greene (Kamryn), her grandchildren, Matthew Greene, and Jaxon Greene, to them he was affectionately known as “Papa James”. He also leaves to cherish his memories, his sisters, Annie Williams (David), Gwendolyn Eure, his uncle, Larry Brinkley; nieces, Pamela Copeland, and Tracy Eure, nephews, Samuel Harris, Derek Eure, Earl Eure, who looked up to him as father-figure, and Anthony Eure. He also leaves a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
A public viewing will be held 3-7pm, Thursday, August 6, 2026 at Crocker Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held 1:00pm, Friday, August 7, 2026 at the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. Mr. Eure will be laid to rest at Carver Memorial Cemetery. The family has entrusted Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. with professional services rendered with dignity, compassion, and care.
