Mr. James “Dobug” Eason, Sr. accepted the call of the Almighty and went to his heavenly home on March 2, 2025. He was born in Gates County, NC and was preceded in death by his parents, James and Gladys Eason; his beloved wife of 35 years, Ruby M. Eason and brother Marilyn “Boy” Eason.
Dobug attended Central High School in Gates, NC. He retired as a Longshoreman from HRSA-ILA in 1989. He was a member of Zion Tabernacle and attended New Calvary Baptist Church faithfully in the last few years.
He leaves to treasure his memories: His devoted children, Janice Simms of Suffolk, Ebonne Love of Portsmouth, James Eason, Jr. of Suffolk; his 6 grandchildren, Stevona Simms, Stevon Eason-Simms (Jordan), Terry Pruden, Nevaeh and Armony Eason, Nia Harper; 5 great-grands, Ja’Cayla Wilkins, Stevon Jr,, Sayvon, Samir and Journi Eason-Simms; a special son, Stevie Simms; 2 sisters, Joyce Walker of Amityville, NY, Gloria Harvey (Fred) of Gates, NC; 3 brothers, Purnell Eason (Patricia) of Newark, NJ, Alvin Eason (Chavis) of Woodbridge, VA and Ricky Eason (Pamela) of Gates, NC; 2 sisters-in-law, Nina Saunders of Norfolk, VA and Lenora Morgan of Bronx, NY; 2 brothers-in-law, Havard Gary of Hampton, VA and Roosevelt Brown of Brooklyn, NY; 1 special nephew, Octavius Eason of Corapeake, NC; 1 goddaughter, Tiffany Jones, and a special friend who stayed by his side until the end, Natalie Hayes. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews and friends to cherish his memories.
A viewing will be held 3-7 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2025 at Crocker Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2025 at New Mt. Joy Food for Living Ministries.
