On the morning of Sunday, September 30, 2018, the angel of silence came into his home and with chilly fingers sealed the lips of a loving husband and father, James Olden Daye. His soul winged its flight from this world of sin, sorrow, and pain, to a place of eternal rest.James was the proud son of the late John Olden and Iona Jessup Daye of Northumberland County, Heathsville, Virginia of December 16, 1936.James was converted, baptized and joined the First Baptist Church, Heathsville, Virginia at an early age.James attended the schools in Northumberland County; graduated from Rosenwald High School-June 1955. He attended Virginia State University, Petersburg, Virginia. Following college, he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served two years in Alaska-1960-1962. Following his military service, he came to Suffolk, Virginia.James was married to Mildred Walden Daye and to that union two sons were born, James Ricardo Daye and Gregory Theron Daye. He was an ideal husband and father to his family. James taught his children to be God-loving and God-fearing and that to be a Christian was one of the greatest things in life; and to know his children, you will find that they have ever remembered his teaching.Living in the Suffolk area, James properly joined the Mount Sinai Baptist Church. By James' Christian conduct it was decided that he would be the proper one to fill the offices of Superintendent of Sunday School, Sunday School Teacher, and Deacon of the Church.James was a member of Holland Lodge #256 where he served as Worshipful Master, secretary, and treasurer. He was also a member of Holland Chapter #162 Order of the Eastern Star where he served as Worthy Patron and Associate Patron. He also served as Assistant District Deputy of the Eighth Masonic District. James retired from the U. S. Government as Director of the Explosive Safety Inspection Program for the Department of the Navy.James leaves to cherish his precious memories, his wife of 58 years, Mildred Walden Daye, two sons, James Ricardo Daye (Christine) of Orlando, Florida and Gregory Theron Daye (Renee') of Richmond, Virginia; one sister-in-law, Delphenia W. Brandon; one brother-in-law, Warrick Kenneth Walden (Edna); four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.A celebration of life will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 6, 2018, at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, 6100 Holy Neck Road, Suffolk, Virginia. He will be laid to rest in Mt. Sinai Baptist Church Cemetery.
