Iola M. "Beacie" Townsend

July 19, 1959 — August 29, 2020

Iola Marie Townsend of Portsmouth, VA gained her wings and went to be with the Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at the age of 61. Iola was born on July 19, 1959 to Annie Mae Morgan and Oscar Sims in Crawley, Louisiana. She graduated from Pemberton Township High School in 1977 (Pemberton, NJ). Iola was employed for a total of 28 years between, New Lisbon Developmental Center (New Lisbon, NJ), Smithfield Packing Company (Smtihfield, VA) and served as manager at Jimmy Jazz Clothing/Shoe Store(Chesapeake, VA). She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church of Suffolk, VA. Iola was a loving, kind, caring and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She had a contagious smile and laught thta could bring joy to any room. She was deeply loved by all who were ever blessed to have known or met her. Iola is preceded in death by, Annie Mae Morgan (Mother), Oscar Sims (Father), Lola Jean (Grandmother), Harold Lee Jean (Brother). Iola is survived by her devoted husband, Neal M. Townsend, her daughter, Tamika N. Glascoe, her son, Lee O. Glascoe, Jr., her sisters, Patricia (Jerry) Swink and Mary (Rodney) Young, her brother Willie (Anita) Sims, two stepdaughters, Nicole M. Townsend and TaTonya D. Blalark, 9 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and a host of brother and sister-in-laws, nieces, cousins, and numerous devoted friends. Iola was an all around truly amazing person. She lived her life to the fullest and encouraged everyone she knew to do the same. She loved hard and was equally loved in return. She will truly be missed. A celebration of life will be held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 8, 2020 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest in Albert G.
