Obituary for Helen Ruth Smith
Helen Ruth Jones was born to Paul Jones, Sr and Annie Ruth Jones on July 7, 1957 and lived in Emporia with her 4 other siblings. She went to schools in Emporia Virginia. She met and married Stanley Smith; she then relocated to Richmond Virginia. Helen was married to Stanley Smith for 51 years. Helen Ruth Smith was a loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose life was centered around her family. She peacefully departed this life April 30, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and devotion.
Due to her lifelong battle with epilepsy, Helen Ruth Smith was unable to work outside the home, but as a veteran wife, she dedicated her life to caring for and loving her family. Their union was blessed with five children, whom she loved dearly and cherished with all her heart. In 2000, she received the gift of a kidney transplant that carried her through many more precious years with her loved ones. Through every challenge, Helen remained strong, caring, and deeply family-oriented.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory: her husband of 51 years, Stanley Smith; her children, Chanda Smith of Richmond, Virginia, Stephanie Smith of Richmond, Virginia, Lisa Smith of Newport News, Virginia, Vego Smith of Richmond, Virginia, and Vegas Smith of Richmond, Virginia. Helen was also blessed with 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought great happiness to her life. Helen also treasured a special friendship with a dear friend who lived in Richmond, Virginia. Helen Ruth Smith was pre-deceased by her 3 sisters; Barbara A. Battle, Ernestine Jones and Jean L. Smith. She is also survived by her brother, Alonzo Jones (Annette) of Suffolk, Virginia; her sister Shirley Adkins of Emporia, VA; her brother Paul Jones Jr. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends who will forever hold her memory in their hearts. Helen Ruth Smith will always be remembered for her love of family and the lasting impact she made on everyone who knew and loved her.
With great joy and peace, we share that several months before her passing, Helen gave her heart to Jesus Christ.
