Helen M. Young

Helen Mae Doretha Young was born on September 3, 1948 in East New Market, Maryland to the late Mary Slacum Jenkins and James R. Jenkins, Sr. Helen is pre-deceased by two brothers, James Rudolph Jenkins, Jr. and William Russell Jenkins, Sr. She attended and accepted Christ at an early age at East New Market United Methodist Church. She studied her early childhood education at Mace Lane in Cambridge, Maryland. She later moved to Suffolk and married Mr. Melvin Young in July 2007. Helen was a faithful member of Tabernacle Church, joining in September 2014 under the leadership of Bishop Marcus D. Brown, Sr. Helen leaves to celebrate her life and memories, her husband, Melvin Young of Sufolk, VA; her one and only beloved daughter, Carlese J. Hite (Johnny) of Suffolk, VA; two sisters, Kay Slacum and Rhoda Palmer of Maryland; one aunt, Lillian Slacum of Maryland; four stepchildren, Margaret, Linda, Beverly, Melvin, Jr.; step-granddaughters, Joy Hite of Jacksonville, FL and Pleasure Lewis of Suffolk, VA; and a loving goddaughter, Arnetra Harston. A celebration of life will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2022 at Tabernacle Church, Portsmouth, Virginia. She will be laid to rest in East New Market, Maryland.
