Arise, shine, for your light has come and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. Isaiah 60:1 In the early morning silence of November 27, 2021, God's beautiful child, Helen Ingram, was gently ushered to that prepared place of peace and eternal rest. Helen was born to Sadie Mae Young and Arthur Lee Ingram, on August 6, 1961, in Suffolk, Virginia. She was loved and cherished by them and enjoyed her very early life with her parents an siblings. Around the age of one Helen resided in the warm home of Spencer and Elaine Bailey, in the Holland section of Suffolk. Mr. and Mrs. Bailey showered Helen and her brother, Gene, with love and care until the passing of Mrs. Bailey. It was then, when Helen was about four years old, that she and Gene moved from the Baileys, where they were invited to reside in the welcoming home of Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Saunders. Mr. and Mrs. Saunders children were grown and they were ecstatic to become mama and daddy to another little boy and girl. Helen was a quiet person, but if she really liked you, she would talk the hair out of your ears. Much of her talk was about God and how much she was thankful for His blessings. But her favorite topic was her son Carlos. It was Carlos, Carlos, Carlos. He was the apple of her eye and she loved him proudly and undeniably, and Carlos eagerly returned her love. Helen faithfully joined and attended Mt. Sinai Baptist Church at an early age. After she moved from Holland, she attended Greater First Baptist Church. Helen worked in Nursing, providing for the elderly until her health failed. Helen was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Sadie Mae Young and Arthur Ingram, Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Bailey, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Eddie Saunders; grandparents, Claude and Evelyn Gatling; siblings, Barbara Ingram, Flossie S. Brown, Vivian S. Foreman, Arnell Saunders, Aldrich Saunders and Obadiah Saunders; grandparents, Evelyn and Claud Gatling; aunts, Maggie Freeman (Westley), Edna Linton (Willie), Blanche Blount (Early), Rosa Futrell (Charlie), and Blanch Young; uncles, Willie Young, James Young, Melvin Young (Edna), Charles Martin (Hattie), Bud Gatling, and Cleveland Gatling; good friends, Mr. Michael Bowers and Mr. Michael Boone. Helen leaves to cherish her memories one son, Carlos Ingram and his lovely wife, Kem Johnson Ingram; daughter, Denita Baker; two grandchildren, Kamri Johnson and Devin Chamblis; good friend, Michael Bowers; siblings, Rosa Ingram, Sarah Ingram, Elizabeth Ash (Clarence), Junius Young, Otis Ingram, Ocie Ingram, Arthur Ingram, Gene Ingram, Alphonza Saunders and Leon Saunders (Pecolia). The Biblical meaning of Helen means shining light. Helen came into our lives to shine the light of love on all of us. Helen's light will forever shine in our hearts. A celebration of life will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 4, 2021 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
