Harry Lee Council, 60, of Nansemond Parkway, Suffolk, Virginia, transitioned on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at Sentara Obici Hospital.

He was a Suffolk native and the son of the late William Council. He is also predeceased by his grandparents Albert and Evelyn Sykes Council and Elizabeth Sebrell.

He graduated from John Yeates High School in 1981 and attended Virginia Union University. Harry was a great basketball player for his high school and community. He was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church. He was a member of the United States Navy. He later joined the workforce as a welder at shipyard BAE Systems. He was a great poem writer.

To cherish his memories he leaves to his mother, Mrs. Ruth S. Council, his only daughter, Shannon L. Council; granddaughter, Amia Jordan; three brothers, Willie J. Council (Muriel), Larry D. Council of Suffolk, VA and Lonnie Q. Council (Marie) of Hampton, Virginia; three sisters, Ruth E. Council, Betty L. Council and Cora C. Allen (Timothy) of Suffolk, VA; uncle, Albert W. Council (Della) of Suffolk, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A public viewing will be held 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, November 7, 2023 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel. A celebration of life will be held 12:00pm, Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at Oak Grove Baptist Church. He will be laid to rest in Carver Memorial Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
