Florine Colbert Cooper

Florine Colbert Cooper, 85, of 900 block of Truman Road, Suffolk, Virginia transitioned Thursday, March 22, 2018 at her residence. She is the daughter of the late John Thomas Colbert and Annie Taylor Colbert. She was preceded in death by her husband Hugh Gilbert Cooper; three brothers and one great granddaughter, Brayleigh Lyons and sister in law, Daisy Colbert.Mrs. Cooper was a native of Suffolk, VA. She retired from Portsmouth Naval Hospital after 29 years as a Nurse. She was a faithful member of Metropolitan Baptist Churchand was affiliated with Chi Eta Phi Professional Nursing Sorority. She was also the recipient of the Hospitality Ministry Honoree for dedicated service.She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Beverly Jackson (Clarence), Deborah Sanford (Jeff) and Clarice Anderson (Gerald, Sr.); five grandchildren Gerald L. Anderson, Jr., Joi S. Hill (Keiyvon), Tiffani Applewhite (Christopher, Sr.) ; two adopted grandchildren, Dale and Christopher Roscoe; four great grandchildren, Kolin Hill, Kaleb Warren, Christopher Applewhite, Jr. and Welei Miller; two step daughters, Patricia Myers (Willie) and Gwendolyn Cooper; five adopted daughters, Denise Kahan (Vernnell), Delores Burke (Charles), Rev. Janice White (Albert, Sr., ) Tracy Jacobs (Allen) and Pam Simmons; three nieces, Sharon Tyler (James), Jackie Colbert and Carman Bass; two nephews, Christopher Williams and Tyrone Nicholson; adopted nieces Beverly Robertson Jackson; God children, Tracey Goodman, Cherlyn Covington and Ann Parker Hicks; special cousins Glena Morrison and Tuwanna Exum; two sisters-in-law, Doris Buckle and Ella Gutierrez; special friends, Lucille Hodges, Cassie Porter, Shirley Spruiell, Vivian Turner, Alice Lundia, Ola Mae Pittman, Deidre Mitchell; a host of other relatives and friends. A celebration of life will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Metropolitan Baptist Church. Dr. Robert L. Hobbs will deliver the message of comfort.
