Florence Elizabeth Jones Woodard affectionately known as “Boogie” passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 3, 2020. Boogie was born May 30, 1938 in Ivor, Virginia to the late Stanley Jones, Sr. and Nettie Mae Davis Jones. She was the youngest daughter and middle of five children. Her sisters, Gertrude Gwaltney and Vernice Walker preceded her in death. Boogie was a 1955 graduate of Hayden High School in Franklin, Virginia. She retired from Southampton County Public Schools. In July 1971, Boogie married the late Delano L. “Russell Lee” Woodard and two daughters were born from this union. While Boogie may have only had two biological children, many of her nieces and nephews think of her as a mother. She loved spending time with her family. She was a loving and caring woman, devoted wife, mother, Nana, sister, and friend always willing to put others first. As a member of the New Branch Baptist Church, she loved working in the church and enjoyed helping others. She loved cooking, baking, canning, and gardening. Boogie leaves to cherish her loving memory her daughters: Celeste Monique Parker (Ronnie), Roanoke, Virginia; Shatima Taylor (Cliffton), Chester, Virginia; her grandsons: Christian Parker and Gavin Taylor; her brothers: Stanley Jones, Jr. (Rev. Elizabeth), Wakefield, Virginia, and Clarence Henry Jones, Franklin, Virginia; adopted sister: Edna Cheatom; a sister-in-law: Patricia Woodard, West Palm Beach, Florida, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. The family will receive visitors at the home of Tony and Angela Gwaltney (Ms. Nettie Mae’s House), 7204 Proctors Bridge Road, Ivor, Virginia. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the New Branch Baptist Church 8140 Proctors Bridge Road, Ivor, Virginia, Rev. Frank L. Aikens, Sr. Officiating. She will be laid to rest in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
