On Friday, May 1, 2026, our hearts were gently touched as God, in His infinite wisdom, called His faithful servant, Evelyn C. Deloatch, home to everlasting rest. A woman of grace, strength, and unwavering faith, surrounded by loved ones, Evelyn received her wings at Sentara Obici Hospital. God called our lovely mother, mother-in-love, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend home.

She was a woman deeply rooted in family, faith, and service — values that she carried with her throughout her life and passed on to the generations that follow.

A Life Well Lived

Evelyn was born December 22, 1956 in Suffolk, Virginia, where she loved and raised her two beautiful children, Tyesha and Trevino. In 1997, she became mother to another beautiful child whom her deceased sister trusted and believed she would continue to love as her own. Evelyn fulfilled that duty with excellence.

A woman of quiet strength and enduring compassion, Evelyn dedicated seven years of service to the Virginia Department of Social Services as a State Licensed Child Care Provider. Caring for children was her passion. After becoming a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, she transitioned to new employment with the Department of Health and Human Resources Head Start Program, where she faithfully touched countless lives for 33 dedicated years until her health began to decline.

She was a devoted and faithful member of Greater Emanuel Temple (G.E.T. Suffolk), where as the Mother of her church home, she found joy, fellowship, and spiritual nourishment.

Those who knew Evelyn (Lolly) will remember her for her gentle spirit, her warm presence, and the love she so freely gave. Most of all, her cooking skills were phenomenal.

Preceded in Death

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie Deloatch and Laura Tilley Deloatch; her sisters, Sheila and Brenda Deloatch; her brothers, Johnnie Deloatch, Robert Deloatch, and John Deloatch; and her grandson, DeMonle Tillery; and three nephews, Quinton Deloatch, Alcender Fenner, and Paul Thompson Jr.

She Leaves to Honor and Cherish Her Memory

Two loving daughters: Tyesha Deloatch-Smith (Thomas) and Cutrena Deloatch-Williams (Marco); three extraordinary sons: Trevino Deloatch, Rasheed Deloatch, and Thomas Smith III; a faithful, devoted son-in-law, Thomas Smith Jr.

Evelyn was also a deeply loving grandmother to Verniqua, K'la (Sam), DeMarco, Kevino, Bahja, RaMonii, Bella, Royal, Dejour, Reign, Parker, Johann, Royalty, Nivea, Anna, and Jahleel.

Four loving sisters: Ada Elner, Helen Wright, Barbara Harris (Alphonso), and Gloria Joseph (Jessie); two special brothers: Leroy Deloatch and Anthony Deloatch; and a host of loving supporting nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
