Eugene A. Harris Sr., 79, of 6250 Yellow Hammer Road Zuni, Va. departed this life on March 31, 2022. He was born August 4, 1942 to the late Rosa Scott and Aubrey Harris. He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Winnegan Harris and brother William Harris. He was educated in the Southampton County school system and at an early age he joined New Branch Baptist Church in Ivor Virginia. Eugene was a Jack-of-all -Trades and found treasures in small & simple things. Through the years some of his previous employment included, Smithfield Packing Co. and most recently, Isle of Wight Sanitation Department. He was a natural comedian with tons of humor & opinions, no matter how unsolicited. He was a die hard Dallas Cowboys fan and true to his competitive spirit, enjoyed trash talking to all in opposition. Eugene enjoyed fishing, hunting & gardening. Once the fish was caught & cleaned, the deer beamed & butchered, and the collards cleared & cut, he would turn on the stove and make magic. Eugene could make the best fried fish & chicken, with a side of collards, paired with his famous fried cornbread. He loved spending time with his family and through the years have hosted many family gatherings. He leaves to cherish his memories daughters, Tamara H. Gay (Robert), Tonya Long (Gregory), Tracy Davis, Telicia Evans (Charles), Sharon Winnegan Thomas & Louise E Weeks (George ); son, Eugene A. Harris Jr. (Shelia) & Fernando Winnegan; sister, Patricia Harris-Copeland; sister -in -law, Jacqueline Joyner; brothers, Herman Lee Harris, James Harris & Barry Harris; grandchildren, Takeita, Taquesha, Markeisha, Tyresha, Rashard, Gregory Jr., Gabriel, Ashley, Terrence, Terrell, TaShawn, Jordan, Dalee, Chloe, Johnathan, Jasmine, Lance, Jamal & Jesse. Numerous great grandchildren that he took great pride in bringing treats to and a host of nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 2022 at Gilfield Baptist Church, 9040 Doles Rd, Ivor, VA 23866. He will be laid to rest in the church cemetery.
