Ethel Delois Archer Blount

February 9, 1948 — March 19, 2023

Ethel Delois Archer Blount of Chesapeake, Virginia, passed away on March 19, 2023 at a young age of 75. She was a child of God, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many. She lived a long and beautiful life marked by love, compassion, a servant’s heart, and clothed in righteousness. Lois, as she is best known, was born on February 9, 1948 to Joseph and Otelia Archer in Suffolk, Virginia. After attending Booker T. Washington High School, Lois started working in the post office and later with Hewlett Packard but would soon find the most rewarding of careers to be as a homemaker and mother to her five children. In the late 1960s, Lois married Lavon Coles, Sr. During their 11-year marriage, Lois began her life-long journey as a mother to Tammi Lavel Coles, Valerie Linette Williamson (Mario), and Lavon Coles, Jr. (Erica). In the early 1980s, Lois met George M. Blount who she would later marry and spend 40+ years together. They began a blended family with Lois’s three children, and George’s four children - Angela, Junie, Shakeeta, and Katrina. In 1983, Lois and George had Christopher-Jesus Blount (Kimberly) and Brian DeAngelo Blount (Shardé) in 1987, the final addition to their family. Lois gave her all to her children, instilling in them the values of love, compassion, serving others, and a righteousness character clothed in humility. Her love for and faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was evident and the greatest example she demonstrated for her children. With unwavering faith, she persevered. Clothed in righteousness, she was a reflection of God’s goodness. She was a friend to many and was sure to give a dollar or a helping hand to anyone in need. Lois loved her friends and family and filled her home with warmth and kindness. Lois was preceded in death by her father Joseph Archer and mother Otelia Cooper Archer, her beloved husband, George, and her sisters Irene Goodman (Glen) and Sylvia. She is survived by her children, 11 grandchildren, her sister Viola Marie Leslie (Tim), and her brothers David Archer (Marie) and George Leroy “BoPete” Archer (Maggie), and a host of nieces and nephews who she loved as if they were her own children and would tell you about the remarkable woman they called “Aunt Lois.” Lois always lived a life without limits, giving selflessly of her time, devotion, and love to family and friends.
