Essex Lee Evans, Jr.

Essex Lee Evans, Jr., 69, of LaCrosse Virginia, transitioned Monday, November 12, 2018, at his daughter's residence on Garfield Avenue, Suffolk, Virginia. He was the son of the late Elnora Evans and Essex Evans, Sr., besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Jacqueline Chapman Evans; his sisters, Jeanette Wilson and Shirley Clay; brother, Bernard Evans; and grandson, P.L. Chapman.Essex was a graduate of East End High School in South Hill, VA. He also obtained certification as a brick mason and worked in construction and drove long-distance trucks for Metroglass factory. At an early age, he was baptized and joined Pleasant Hill RZUA. He enjoyed watching westerns on tv, playing checkers, working in the garden, hanging out with family and friends, and target practice.He leaves to cherish his memory six daughters, Ivory Yvette Chapman of Newport News, VA, Tammy Chapman, Betty Diane Ruffin (Earnest), Shannon Chapman, Veronica Chapman(Brian) all of Suffolk, VA, and Shavonne Jeter or Riverdale, GA; three sisters, Brenda Williams of Richmond, VA, Cylvia Thomas (Prince) of South Hill, VA, and Threatha Robinson(Freddie) of Richmond, VA; sister-in-law, Linda Evans; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three aunts, Rosealle Tisdale, Idamae Jiggetts, and Sarah Anna Malone of Jersey City, N.J;  devoted friends, lil man, Jepree Eaton, Earnest Ruffin, and Edward Gore; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.A celebration of life will be held noon, Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at Antioch U.C.C., Suffolk, VA. Rev. Jarvis Jones will deliver the message of comfort. He will be laid to rest in Pleasant Hill RZUA Church Cemetery, LaCrosse, Virginia on Wednesday, November 21, 2018.
