Emily Marie Pugh Bailey

May 20, 1944 — September 25, 2021

Her Beginning Mrs. Emily Marie Pugh Bailey of Suffolk, Virginia said farewell to a blessed and loving earthly life and went to her Heavenly home on Saturday September 25, 2021. Her love for life did not come to an end with her earthly death. Her loving heart left a beacon of light for her family and all who knew her. She was born on May 20, 1944 to the late and Mr. John Pugh Mrs. Lottie Buckley Pugh Her Walk With God Raised in a home that honored and glorified God, she was baptized at the age of 12 at First Baptist Church Mahan Street Suffolk, VA. There she participated in the youth choir, BYF, Sunday School, Summer Bible School and Youth Day programs. As an adult, Emily continued as a choir member. In the midst of all her health challenges, she never forgot to whom she belonged and continued to have faith in God, knowing soon He would receive her in glory. She read her favorite Scripture 2 Corinthians 12:8-9 NIV daily. “Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me, but he said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness”. Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weakness, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” Her Life Work In 1962, Emily graduated from BTW High School, Suffolk, VA and was a graduate of the Obici School of Nursing. She worked at Obici and later as a nurse at Boone Clinic Little Creek Naval Base Medical Center Norfolk and retired after more than 31 years of service. Because God directed her life’s work, she became a nurse and was able to capably take care of her son both professionally and motherly. Her Finding Love After graduating from BTW High School, she married Fletcher Carroll Bailey her high school sweetheart and the love of her life. They were married for 57 years. One child was born to this marriage Carroll Antonio, who we lovingly called Snoopy, he preceded her in death in July 2020. Her Loved Ones to Cherish Memories Emily is survived by her loving husband, Fletcher Carroll Bailey, three nieces, Evangelist Verona Elam (Larry), Chesapeake, Joyce Langston (Dwight) Suffolk, Guinell T. Koonse, Hampton, six nephews Michael Daniel (Kim), Elder Marcus Daniel, both of Suffolk, Patrone Pugh (Bridget) California, Richard Ricks, Jr. (Valarie) Portsmouth, Jeffery Ricks, New York, and Anthony Pugh, Washington D.C. Sister-in-law, Lucille Anderson, Hampton, and brother-in-law, Bernard Bailey (Sandra), Suffolk and Godson, W. James (Jimmy) Almond, lifelong friends Sandra Scott Knight and J. Roland Wilson as well as the entire BTW Class of 1962, many grand nieces, grand nephews, cousins, First Baptist Church family, BTW Alumni, co-workers, neighbors and many, many friends. Loved Ones Receiving her in Heaven Emily was also preceded in death by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. John and Lottie Pugh, her beloved son, Carroll Antonio (Snoopy), her sisters, Marcella, Georgia, Lottie, and Johnetta and one brother, Mickey. Her Legacy Continues All of Emily’s nieces and nephews loved their “Nee Nee” as she was so fondly called for her kind and giving heart and tenderness. Emily was soft spoken, and tender hearted. Most importantly, she accepted the gift of life and Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7 A celebration of life will be held on Monday, October 4, 2021 11AM at Carver Memorial Cemetery Mausoleum 2320 E. Washington St. Suffolk, VA. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
