Ellen Britt Johnson was born on March 13, 1962, in Suffolk, Virginia, to the late Ellen Jane Britt and George B. Britt. On Saturday, June 6, 2026, God whispered, “Come home, my child, come home, for I have prepared a place for you,” to our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. Our beloved matriarch obeyed and quietly slipped away to be with our Lord. Her life was a testament to faith, love, strength, and devotion to family. She leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories and the enduring impact she made on all who knew and loved her.

Ellen was a lifelong member of Olive Branch Baptist Church, where she faithfully served under the leadership of the late Reverend H. I. Tucker and later under the leadership of Pastor Glenn Lyttle, Sr. She was a devoted member of the church choir and a dedicated prayer warrior who loved serving the Lord and encouraging others through her faith. Ellen remained steadfast in her commitment to her church family and ministry until her health began to fail.

Ellen B. Johnson was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Ellen J. Britt and George B. Britt; four siblings, “Baby Boy” Britt, George A. Britt, Iola Britt, and Gloria Brinkley; her beloved stepson, Michael Spruill; her grandson, Lamonte Myrick; her nieces and nephews, Nicole Britt, Demetrius “Toni” Skeeter, Glenda Skeeter, and Lemuel D. Britt; and her great-niece and great-nephews, Destiny Skeeter, D.J., and Brendan Britt.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories her devoted and loving husband, Henry L. Johnson, Jr.; her beloved sister, Belinda Britt Skeeter (Larry); her beloved brother, Michael Monroe “Baby Boy” ; her brother-in-law, James Brinkley; and her six loving children: Kenyon L. Britt (Kimberly), Demita R. Wilkins (Marcus), Tyneki S. Vick (Devin), La’Quetta Jones (Arthur), Demonte L. Ingram, and Walter R. Ingram. She also leaves to cherish her memory her nieces, Shelita and Latanya; her great-niece, Eboni Porter; and great-nephew, Quidreaun Britt.

She was also blessed with a loving family of grandchildren: Tykiera Robinson, Marisa Razo, Khali Jackson, Tennia Windsor, Aleshia Vick, Acarrya Vick, Ayion Jones, Arihonna Jones, Ja’Qaun Robertson, Deanna Vick-Jarrett, Paris Wilkins, Princess Smith-Ingram, Prince Ingram, Darryl Roberson, and Javonte Rogers.

She leaves behind one cherished great-grandchild, Ameria Vick-Beamon, along with a host of other relatives and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory and the love she shared throughout her life.

May her legacy of faith, love, and devotion continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
