Elizabeth Rawles Barrett

Elizabeth Barrett, 96, of Manning Road, Suffolk, Virginia transitioned Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Ella and Daniel Rawles. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband John T. Barrett, Sr; four brothers, Ernest, George, Tom and Jethro Rawles; two sisters, Catherine Rawles Baker and Mary Rawles Copeland; two daughters, Ella Louise Barrett and Ruth B. Hill. She attended Suffolk Schools and was a faithful wife an devoted mother. She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ Elizabeth was an ardent Christian who enjoyed the simple everyday things around her. She had a certain genius about her that is seen and heard in her wise parcels of knowledge, her loyalty and support towards family and friends, and her sensible approach to life and its mysteries. Throughout her years of living and nurturing, Elizabeth bestowed her inner confidence, authentic leadership, and praiseworthy fortitude to generations of family members. She leaves to cherish her memory six daughters, Shirley(Hollis) Boykins, Elizabeth(Ashford, Sr.), Ellison, Ruby B.(Leon) Richmond, Linda (Alexander) Copeland, Catherine (Allen, Sr.) Rodgers and Dorothy (James, Sr.) Reese; two sons, John Jr. (Brenda) Barrett and Herman Barrett; devoted grandson whom she looked as a son, Bobby Burch and nephew, James Thomas Barrett; 19 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great grandchildren; of host of relatives and friends. Public viewing will be held 12-7p.m. Thursday, December 31, 2020at the funeral home. All Funeral services are private.
