Eleanor Virginia Pittman, 81, of Campbells Chapel Drive, Carrollton, Virginia transitioned Saturday, November 23, 2019 at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Pearl May Lassiter and Lindsey Newsome. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her sister, Deloris Thompson and her brother, Willie "Toby" Newsome. She was educated in Suffolk Public Schools and retired from Newport News Shipyard as an Insulator. Eleanor was a member of Tabernacle Christian Church where she was a member of the Silver Leaf Club and Number 2 Usher Board. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, James Pittman of Carrollton, VA; four daughters, Thelma (Vern) Knight Ndiaye of Hampton, VA, Janice Pittman of Carrollton, VA, Stephanie Pittman of Charleston, WV, Sonja Johnson (Tony) of Newport News, VA; three sons, James Knight, Jr. of New Jersey, James Pittman, Jr of Jonesboro, GA, and Roy Pittman of Newport News, VA, son-in-law, Dwayne Jones of Newport News, VA; 23 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; special and last surviving Aunt, Loerene Powell of Suffolk; a special friend, Blanche Frier; a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m. Friday, November 29, 2019 at St. Timothy Baptist Church, 1613 E. Washington Street, Suffolk, VA 23434. Bishop Carlton Upton will deliver the message of comfort. Pastor Thomas Harden, Jr. is the Host Pastor. She will be laid to rest in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
