Elder Alfred Lee Turner

February 19, 1953 — December 24, 2023

Elder Alfred Lee Turner was born and raised in a home that taught God’s love. He grew up as a member of Rehoboth Apostolic Church; later, his Pastor and mentor the late Bishop Dr. Obadiah Colander formed Faith Temple Apostolic Church in which he remained a member and is now Faith Temple Ministries Apostolic (FTMA). Elder Turner served as a Sunday School Teacher and was later promoted to the position of Sunday School Superintendent. His servitude and
dedication to work for the Lord prompted his late Pastor, Bishop Colander to ordain him as a minister and placed him as a Youth Pastor. After serving well in his church home and church organization he was ordained as an Elder by the late Bishop Dr. Monroe R. Saunders, Sr. during an annual Holy Convocation.


Elder Turner obtained his Associates in Applied Science (Fire Science Degree) 1986 from Community College of the Air Force; Bachelor of Arts (Humanities) May 1987 from Eastern Illinois University; Masters of Christian Counseling, Emphasis in Research and Outreach on May 25, 2017.


Alfred Lee affectionately known as Elder Victory, retired from the United States Air Force after serving twenty years, two months, and thirteen days. He served as a Suffolk Public School Substitute Teacher, as the chairman of the Board for the Suffolk Chapter American Red Cross, being an instructor, teaching CPR, STAND, First Aid, and the use of the Emergency Defibrillator and Disease Intervention. He also served as Vice-Chairman of the Saratoga Civic League.


He was predeceased by his parents: Walter Turner and Emma Ruth Turner, John Turner and Mamie Porter Turner; his brothers: Rufus Turner, Marlon Turner, Johnny Turner, Robert Turner, Alfelton Turner, Cornell Turner, Joe Turner; one sister: Dorothy Porter; and special cousin: Elsie Dawson-Wiggins.


He leaves behind to cherish his memories: his wife of forty-five years Missionary Rita S. Colander-Turner, they were blessed with three children: Adena C. Conwell (Larry), Jonathan I. Turner (Nicole), and Seth M. Turner; four grandchildren: Rayshone Roberts, Damon Williams, Jr., Jenasequa Turner, and Madyson Conwell. Two great- grandchildren: London Roberts and Malani Williams; two sisters: Marie Flynn-Kindred (Bishop Kindred) and Audrey Turner-Brooks; his god-daughters: Charnita Boggs (Anthony) and Jeanette Ruffin (Ervin); his endearing cousins: Betty Ann Dawson-Rountree, Alease Dawson, Henry Dawson, Jr. (Cynthia), Elizabeth Dawson-Bullock, Ronald Dawson (Lucy), Earl Dawson (Patricia); a host of nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.


His scripture motto is Proverbs 16:3 “Commit your works to the Lord, and your thoughts shall be established.”

A celebration of life will be held 12:00 p.m. January 6, 2024 at Faith Temple Apostolic Church, 476 Wellons Street, Suffolk, Virginia 23434. He will be laid to rest in Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
