Edward Barnes, Jr.

Edward Barnes, Jr., 86 of Boykins, Virginia, transitioned peacefully Saturday, November 29, 2025. He was the oldest son of the late Edward Barnes Sr., and Ossie Barnes.

“Edward Jr. “, joined the Air Force after graduating high school, where he served his country honorably. After serving in the Air Force, he studied at Norfolk State University, while working at Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a supervisor of shipbuilding for East Coast-Naval Sea Systems Command, where he retired. He was also a member of the Air Force Reserve and served in Operation Desert Storm. Edward Jr., worked at Mike Duman Auto Sales for many years and was consistently salesman of the year, he also enjoyed bowling and was a member of various leagues.

Edward Jr. is preceded by his wife of 45 years, Verlia Mae Barnes, daughter, Millicent Anstead, son, Michael Barnes, Sr., grandson, Michael Barnes Jr., brothers, Curtis Majette, Lonnie Lee Barnes and Lee Herman Barnes. He is survived by his wife Joanne Barnes, daughters, Nancy Boone, Charlottesville, Virginia, Teresa Chapman, Houston, Texas and Tiffane Ulsh, Newport News, Virginia. 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends

A service will be held 1:00p.m. On Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at Crocker Funeral Home. Following his service he will be laid to rest in Albert G. Horton Veteran Memorial Cemetery at 3:00p.m. Where he will receive honors. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
