Edith Elizabeth Wiggins Pierce

October 22, 1921 — August 7, 2020

On Friday, August 7, 2020, the death angel came and bore the bright, sweet spirit of Edith Wiggins Pierce away to a land that is free from sickness, sorrow, pain and death. She had suffered extremely, but bore it patiently, and even though her loving children did everything that they could to relieve her pain and to prolong her life before going to the Health Care Facility. She had the blessed assurance for the words of the song that she loved so well, "Blessed Assurance, Jesus is Mine." Edith was born on October 22, 1921 in Nansemond County to the late Doss and Jennie Wiggins. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Thurman Pierce; sister, Mary Jane Riddick; brother, Willie Doss Wiggins; daughter, Edith Collette Pierce Turner; daughter-in-law and a grandson. She received her education in the public school of Nansemond County Training School. She excelled in school and graduated in 1939 as the Valedictorian. During her youth she was converted, was baptized and joined the membership of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. She loved the church and loved to serve any place that she could. She served as Musician of the church several years. She gave her time, talent and loyal support. She always met you with a smile. She also had a love for flowers, fishing and family. Edith was married to Thurman Pierce and to this union three children were born, Thurman, Ray and Jennifer. Our heavenly Father knows our sadness. He knows our grief. And to all of our family, relatives and friends He will give relief. His blessed promise will never fail, and He will guide us through the vale. Jesus knows our sorrow. He knows our pain. He will be our comfort. He will be with us all the way. So we feel that Jesus was with her in her last hour, and put His everlasting arms beneath her and held her fast. Edith's beautiful life will be forever cherished in the hearts of those she loved those who knew her. She lived a full fruitful and blessed life for ninety-eight years. Edith leaves to cherish her precious memories her daughter, Jennifer Pierce; two sons, Thurman A. Pierce and Ray A. Pierce; two cousins, Bertha Mae Holland and Doris Jane Darden; niece, Sharon Jones; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and a host of cousins; other relatives and friends. A wake will be held 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. A celebration of life will be held noon, Wednesday, August 12, 2020 in the Melvin J.
