Dorothy Mae Council-Cheeks “Dot”

Dorothy Mae Council-Cheeks “Dot” peacefully departed this life on the evening of Monday, August 24, 2026. She was born on February 27, 1944, in Suffolk, Virginia, to the late Harvey Council Sr. and Hattie Smith Council.

Dorothy “Dot” will forever be remembered for her kind heart, unwavering love of family, and the warmth she shared with everyone she encountered. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother who cherished her family beyond measure. Her greatest joy was watching her family grow and being surrounded by the many generations she helped nurture and love.

Dorothy “Dot” leaves to cherish her precious memory one sister, Hattie Lyons of Richmond, Virginia; one son, Quintonio Cheeks (Tia) of Suffolk, Virginia; one daughter, Andrea Cheeks of Hampton, Virginia; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren, along with a host of loving aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Harvey Council Sr. and Hattie Smith Council; her brother, Harvey Council Jr.; and her cherished daughters, Claudia Cheeks and Tracy Cheeks-Gardner.

Though she is no longer with us in body, her love, laughter, wisdom, and memories will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Her legacy will continue through the family she treasured so deeply and the generations that carry her love forward.

Dorothy “Dot”, you will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.

A viewing will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026 from 2 pm - 5 pm at Crocker Funeral Home in Suffolk, VA. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, 11:00 am in the Melvin Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home.
