Mrs. Doris A. Boykin, 86, peacefully transitioned in her sleep on Monday, July 18, 2022, in Sandston, VA at the home of her daughter. She had been under the excellent care of her daughter since sustaining a near-fatal car accident over 4 years ago. Having fought the fight and grown tired, the Lord gave her her wings and crown. She was born April 11, 1936, in Isle of Wight County (Windsor, VA) to the late Samuel E. Adkins, Sr and the late Thelma Odell Adkins. She was educated in the Suffolk Public School System, graduating from East Suffolk High School. After graduation she did further studies in cosmetology and had many clients in the Holland area of Suffolk. She was very good at that but got a different calling and graduated from the Louise Obici School of Nursing after her family moved from the Holland area to Suffolk. She passed her state licensing exam on the very first attempt. She was employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the Emergency Department of Louise Obici Memorial Hospital for over 20 years before she retired. After her retirement, she still felt a need to continue nursing and worked in Urgent Care Centers for several more years until fully retiring. She loved to cook, fish, sew, and travel. She accepted Christ at a young age and was a former member of Chapel Grove U.C.C., Windsor, VA; Zion Christian Church, Suffolk, VA where she served on the Pastor Aide ministry; St. John’s Christian Church, Suffolk, VA and Eternal Life Church, Franklin, VA where she served as an Usher until her unfortunate accident. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Allen M. Boykin, brother, Samuel E. Adkins, Jr, and leaves to mourn her death; daughters, Lois G. Boykin Hall (Kurtis) of Richmond, VA, son Dr. Keith B. Boykin, MD (Jacqueline) of Nokesville, VA; daughters, Treva B. Henson of Richmond, VA; and Ronda R. Boykin, of Suffolk, VA; Granddaughters, Amber E., and Allison G. Boykin, grandsons Dion A., Darin A., Taylor K., and Ian C. Boykin, great granddaughters, Amari Smith-Boykin and Ava G. A celebration of life will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2022 in the chapel of Oak Grove Baptist Church 2635 E. Washington Street, Suffolk, Virginia 23434. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
