Dollie Mae Reid, 96, peacefully passed at Maryview Nursing Care Center on Monday, December 14, 2020. She was born on September 12, 1924 in Nansemond County, VA to the late Lenwood and Marie Reid. She was the third of six children. Her old brother, William, died as an infant. Hence, Dollie grew up with one older brother and three younger sisters. She attended public school in Nansemond County. After which, she worked as a packer for Planters Peanut Co (Kraft Heinz) until she retired after forty-seven years of service. Ms. Reid took pride in her work at Planters, and she would frequently invite family member to the company's Family and Friends Day events. Dollie devoted her life to caring for her parents until their death. Although she never married or had children, she doted on her nieces and nephews, as well as, her great and great-great nieces and nephews. She loved attending yard sales with her sisters and participating in events and vacations with family members. Dollie was a faithful member of Little Mount Zion Baptist Church since childhood. She loved her church and pastor. After moving in with her niece and her niece's husband, Verlia and Rev. Dr. Jesse Taylor, she frequently attended Metropolitan Baptist Church. Dollie was predeceased by her parents, Lenwood and Marie Reid; her brothers, William and Lynn Reid Jr.; sister, Gladys Rabb; sister-in-law, Charlotte Reid; brothers-in-law, Sherman Lassiter, Sr., Johnnie Duke and Robert Rabb; nephews, Linwood "Pete" Reid III and Beverly "Bubba" Rabb. She leaves to cherish her memory, her sisters, Mildred Lassiter and Marie Duke; devoted niece Verlia Taylor (Rev. Dr. Jesse Taylor), nieces, Kasandra Goodman (Bobby) and Glenda Williams; nephews, Rev. Sherman Lassiter, Jr. (Esther), Ellis Lassiter (Sheila), Jarvis Duke (Arlene-deceased), as well as her devoted caregiver, Charlene Budd. In order to keep everyone safe, visitation will be held on Thursday, December 17, 2020 from 3:00p.m. to 6:00p.m. in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home in Suffolk, VA rather than the home. Visitors are asked to comply with the Coronavirus/COVID-19 protective guidelines. A graveside service will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 18, 2020 at Carver Memorial Cemetery. Dr. Bazemore will deliver the message of comfort.
